Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans held its March Monthly Meeting on March 2, 2019.
National United Bank continued their support as a Premier Corp Sponsor for 2019. Eric Armstrong, Copperas Cove Branch VP was in attendance and presented their financial commitment of $3000.
Our guest speaker was Habitat for the Humanities. She discussed the Veterans grant program and its eligibility. These are grants of up to $15,000 and do not have to be paid back. She also stated their are other grants for non-veteran citizens.
We also discussed the fact that the Copperas Cove City Council did approve the continuation of the SGVHV building lease with exact terms pending. Thank you to all SGVHV Members who attended that council meeting.
The Copperas Cove Chamber Mixer hosted by Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans was held on February 28th. It was an awesome Event. Jonathan Haywood, SGVHV President and CC Chamber President tag teamed on handling of this Mixer. One of the Event highlights was when Mr Haywood presented the Bill French and the French Family with the Vietnam War commemorative Certificate of Honor along with Vietnam Pin and Coin for the service of William C. French, Jr. LTC US Army (Ret).
Relay for Life Events were reviewed and donations collected by SGVHV Executive Director Ms. Sheila Timmons as Mr. John Cook the SGVHV Relay for Life Event Leader was unable to attend the meeting.
Date and time for Relay for Life Events are as follows:
Killeen Relay will be held 27 April 2019 at Texas A&M University Campus from Noon to 10pm. The Killeen Survivor dinner is 26 March 2019 at Texas A&M University Campus 5pm-8pm.
Copperas Cove Relay will be held 4 May 2019 at SC Lee Jr High school, address 1205 Courtney Ln Copperas Cove, Texas from 9am-9pm. The Cove Survivor dinner is 6 April 2019 at 6pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Ave F Copperas Cove,Texas.
Everyone is encouraged to register by calling the (800)227-2345 option 2 to sign up for the SGVHV team but donations should be given to Mr Cook or turned into SGVHV.
You can also sign up for either event as a Survivor or attend the dinners by calling the number.
The SGVHV Survivor/Caregivers Awards criteria of an Essay (500 words max) was discussed and the March 15th deadline date.
Winners will be presented at the SGVHV April Monthly Meeting.
Upcoming Event is the Copperas Cove Golden Deed Award on March 28th, tickets are $15 and SGVHV has purchased a table. (See Mr. Robertson for tickets.
